Adriana Atema | statement
Atema reflects what the unconscious sees; with layers of experiences from other times and places coloring the events of the present. Her imagination digests the cold with visions of spring green distances, just out of reach. Scratch-out lines and birds emerging from scribble, layers of people in the same place, a story being told and distorted in obvious ways. Her paintings and installations depict a moment of both flight and contemplation, stillness and movement, layers of crowding next to open emptiness, cities of people. Animate objects and an infinite space between them create a freeing, inclusive joyfullness; including a pain, a danger, a time layered in a place, a cornucopia of good times. Other times are scribbled out in an a way that everyone can see - and still to celebrate.
